Job Summary & Key Objectives

The Operations Team Leader is responsible for providing leadership to and for those production, food safety, engineering and delivery service associates who are responsible for meeting our many customer’s product quality and distribution expectations, on a consistent daily basis, and within the Annual Profit Plan/budget.  This position requires a daily demonstration of competency for all on-the-job baking activities, interacting with all work groups within Operations as their trainer, their coach, their mentor.  All Operational activities will be within the standards set forth by each governmental agency with whom we must be in compliance.

Key Responsibilities & Tasks

Fully embraces and exemplifies our Prime Directives in the eyes of all Bakery associates.


Clearly understand—and reduce to written form—certain key customer’s product quality specifications. Such specifications shall be maintained in a Master Product Specifications binder.


Set goals with each functional group of associates and then ensure that our bakery associates fully-support our quest for excellence in safety at all times. Ensure that safety meetings are conducted on an agreed-upon schedule for each work group.

Participate in the selection process with the goal of placing the right people in the right positions within Operations. Be in compliance with all Company people-related policies and procedures.

Lead in coaching and mentoring all Production associates on how tasks associated with each position must be performed right the first time, in our quest for excellent product quality and the control of waste daily.

Be accountable for developing and executing a plan of action that addresses the needs of our associates, as identified in our most-recent opinion survey.

Recognize those associates who are performing in ways that move us in the direction of excellence.


Lead Operations Team meetings, holding each of your direct reports accountable for getting work done with a sense of urgency for our customers and associates.

Conduct Product Quality scoring sessions daily.

Ensure that the daily Production Schedule is designed to meet customer expectations for being timely, while at the same time meeting our cost goals.

With help from our production, food safety, and engineering associates, establish those protocols that enable SUPERIOR plant ratings from the American Institute of Baking.

Work with our production, food safety, and engineering teams to identify the root cause of each equipment failure to further-refine our preventive maintenance process.


In support of our Annual Profit Plan, set waste reduction and cost control goals with the Operations team, then lead and hold your direct reports accountable for achieving those goals.

Perform other duties as assigned.



Associate Degree or with a minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in the baking industry.

Must be knowledgeable in the functional technology of ingredients/raw materials and equipment specifications and operational procedures.

Speech and hearing abilities that allow for the clear communication of product quality expectations as well as other Operations-related goals and health/safety regulations. Able to generate written and verbal communications as well as read and analyze bakery production documents.

A well-organized individual who is clearly a team player.
